Lions In The Zoo Recycle Project is our aim to recycle forgotten cloth to be used again. The fashion industry is one of the largest polluters in the world, just after the oil industry. Ironically, I started Lions In The Zoo with the passion of seeing my designs being worn on people. Through the 10 years of designing clothing I was educated on the impacts of the fashion industry on the environment. To start, I began resourcing more self-sustainable fabrics like industrial hemp, bamboo and cotton that is dyed with fruit instead of toxic chemicals. The better I got at sewing I saw an opportunity to re-tune and refurbish overstocked items into completely new pieces. Then after seeing abandoned items out adventuring, I decided to take things like; tents, sweaters, beanies life jackets & anything else that was left forgotten to be restored and used again. Even as a child I hated seeing litter on the ground out in nature so this is my answer to that conviction. Although not all items are 100% recycled because at times we have to add new zippers, new panels, new straps to restore at a level that is just as robust as a brand new item. The aim is to recycle any given item 100%. Each item sold will have a label that gives the recycle percentage.
